Performing Arts Camp

Our performing arts week includes camps for: Painting & Drawing, Dance, Music, and Theatre.
All Four Disciplines have the following in common:
– Devotions and Snack: As with all our camps, the campers stop at the midway point and have a devotional time (the devotionals will be sent to you) and a snack time. You are welcome to send a snack with your camper.
– Showcase on Friday night (4:45 to 5:45): The painters display their work. The campers will perform. Dance for K-2 has its showcase at the end of Friday’s regular camp session.
– Locations: Dance and Theater are in the Worship Center, accessible by the West Parking Lot.
– Music and Painting and Drawing meet in the Multi-Purpose Room, accessible by the East Parking lot
– Theme Days – Tuesday – crazy socks; Wednesday – sunglasses; Thursday – Color Day
– Reminders – All campers in dance need to wear close-toed shoes.

Painting and Drawing Camp
Camp Content: A beginner’s intro to mediums of: watercolor, acrylic paints, pencils, and colored pencils with daily crafts and projects for each medium. Our instructor is Chrissy Byrne,
one of our camp directors. K and above is welcome to join this camp.

Dance Camp
Styles: Kid-created, lyrical, and hip hop. Our dance instructor is Moriah Byrne, one of our camp directors. This is open to campers K and above.

Theater Camp
What is a typical day like? The campers play an ice breaker theatre game to get them out of their shell, used to playing a different role, and experience on the stage itself. They will go over basic acting techniques. After the first day, they will be given a script and then they will practice their lines, stage the scenes, and prep the performance. Theatre camp is for entering 3 rd grade
and above. Kaylee Godby is the instructor. She graduated from Newport Christian this year and has participated extensively in theater and music productions.

What is Music Camp like? The music portion of performing arts week will be 1 part singing and 1 part instruments/percussion. The campers will learn 1 song; some will sing and some will play. Our instructor is Taylor Davis. She has an extensive music background.
